How to detox your hair this January

How to detox your hair this January

It’s that time of year where everyone’s getting fit, cutting out the chocolate and taking a little more care of themselves. But while you’re adding veggies to the shopping list and dedicating yourself to the gym, have you thought about your hair?

With your self-care motivation levels busting through the roof this January, why not give your hair a detox too with these top tips.

1. Massage your scalp

A scalp massage is a must for anyone detoxing their hair. By using your fingertips (not nails) to rub your scalp rhythmically, you increase blood circulation to the area, which helps carry toxins away and can even stimulate hair growth. Plus, who doesn’t need a massage after a hectic Christmas?

2. Clarify your hair

With all the festive hairstyles in December, product build-up can be a big problem in January. This can weigh your hair down, reduce volume and even dry it out. Revive your hair and remove this product build-up by doing a clarifying wash with a sulfate-containing shampoo, followed by a deep conditioner such as Davines Oi conditioner.

3. Go ‘air-dry’ January

Who said dry January was just about the booze? Heat styling tools such as hair straighteners and hairdryers can dry out your hair, causing frazzled locks and thirsty strands. If you’ve had a heat-heavy Christmas, then consider going ‘air-dry’ this January, by putting away the styling tools and letting your hair dry naturally.

4. Hydrate your locks

You should be hydrating and conditioning your locks all year round, but January is a great month to get into practice. Speak to your hairstylist about the best conditioner for your hair type and then get into the routine of conditioning and deep conditioning as advised.

5. Fix broken bonds

If you had your hair coloured in November or December, then hopefully you’ve been regularly applying your stage three PH bonder. If not, then now’s the perfect time to start. Pop by the salon to pick up Olaplex 3, 4 and 5 to keep your coloured hair as healthy as possible.

6. Oil up

While you might be keeping oily foods out of your diet, your hair can benefit hugely from an oil treatment. With high levels of antioxidants, fatty acids and vitamins, oils such as argan oil, restore shine and life to dull and lifeless hair. We love the Moroccan Oil range for giving your locks an extra special detox treat.

7. Drink more water

Drinking more water is probably on your detox list already, but we want to make extra sure. By ensuring your body is properly hydrated, you can help to boost hair health, growth and shine. Aim for 1.5 litres and make sure you eat lots of fruit and veggies too.

8. Get a trim

Of course, it had to appear in here somewhere. If you’re suffering from unmanageable hair, split ends and dry locks, pop into the salon for a professional detox and hair trim to get your 2020 off to the best start.

And, even better, we’re offering a range of promotions this January on hair treatments, masks and conditioners in our hair salon in Rugby – perfect timing. Look after your hair and your hair will look after you!
